SK [0.04] March Devlog + Future updates
Hello there!
Since it's been a while, let me give you one last progress report for the 0.04 patch.
What's Left?
For full transparency, this is what still needs to be done before the release.
All the script and around ~90% of the renders are done and dusted.
I save the most time-consuming work—the animation and rendering of the H-scenes—for last, and I'm thrilled to announce that I've just completed the first of two! And yes, there will be two H-scenes in this update. Might I even be so bold to state that this is some of my greatest work yet?
Which means all that's left to do is the spicy stuff in the last scene. Then I just have to put it all together in the game engine, some fine tuning and tweaks in the script and then it's time for release!
I also want to take some time and explain why this update has been taking so long. Can you imagine that this was originally supposed to be a small and quick update, crazy I know, well the opposite ended up happening. As work started on 0.04 I kept on just getting creative sparks, adding more dialogue and depth to the scenes as well as just adding full on scenes and even an extra H-scene.
And now the 0.04 patch will now end up being bigger than 0.03, more renders, scenes everything.
I know it isn't the first time, but I want to apologize again for the long wait, but I hope the love sweat and tears I've put into this update will show in the quality and somewhat make up for the wait.
What will be in the 0.04 update:
- 2 New fully animated H-scenes.
- 10 spicy new H-animations.
- Over 1200~ New Images.
- 7 New scenes with plenty of new characters introduced.
- New Music.
Looking ahead.
- Future updates, starting with version 0.05, will be smaller and more frequent. Extended periods with no new content, such as in 0.03 and 0.04, are not pleasant for anyone. So all future patches will be somewhere in the size of 400/500 renders and I'll always try to include at least one H-scene with every patch. For real this time, no more long drawn out updates.
Also, please let me know in the comments/discord chat if you prefer longer updates with more dev time or shorter but more frequent. I really want to hear your opinion on this!
- I'm also planning to add a progress bar post that will be pinned on the Patreon, letting you see how far future updates have progressed! Every time I make notable progress with script, scenes, coding, I'll update the progress. Making it simpler for you to monitor the progress made on the game.
I'll send out a spicy sneak peek at my Patreon in the upcoming days, so stay tuned for that.
That's all for now! Love you all and thank you for the support, all of you! Have a great rest of your week and see you soon with the new update!

I think I 100% prefer bigger updates because sometimes i just get far into a game just for them to finally start taking a lot longer with updates and it feels like I get tired of them since I usually have to restart so 100% respect since you are making a masterpiece while taking the time you need instead of rushing it!
Super excited for this update!
definitely bigger updates
I love the work you do. Infinite appreciation!
Another thing I'd like to advise you is that you shouldn't pressure yourself to add one H-Scene every update because it might lead to a lack of proper build-up and the scene not feeling deserved.
The creator problem. I was just doing a quick thing and oops now it´s a big thing. Trust me you are definitely not the only one that has this problem. Creative work like that just has its way to suck someone in, which can be as good as it can be bad. One of the hardest things to do is, to say: "ok that´s it, I will finish this and then stop for now." I only dabbled in creative works like this a tiny bit, but even just this tiny bit, made me experience this problem just the same. If you are curious, I was trying to write a fantasy book, but doing it properly, with actual world building behind it and all. So, making a world map, history, different races, making a magic system, religion, culture, gods, all the good stuff.
wait so how long will it take probably?
If I had to guess another month at most
ok thx!
About the size and frequency of game updates: Personally I don't mind waiting longer for bigger releases if it serves the quality of the game. Regular progress reports (ideally weekly, as least byweekly) are a must in my opinion though to let people know the game is still alive. It's less the length and content of those progress reports/dev logs that matter than the frequency. The point it to make it clear that the project is still alive and being worked on and that some progress is being made. Actual game updates (as in release) of new content should happen every other month at the latest I think because otherwise players will forget what happened before and going back to reread older stuff becomes a pain after a few times, both because of repetitiveness and because of more and more old stuff to go through with each update. Though I guess you could counter that to some extent with small recaps at the beginning of a new update.
I prefer bigger updates personally, but being way too drawn out can lead to forgetfulness. As the previous comment said, definitely have more updates on development
(i should note: when I say update here I mean a devlog)
Honestly time is never the issue with projects coming out (if that makes sense). In other words, take your time, never have to apologize for that. I think what most people like hearing are monthly (and some cases biweekly) updates generally speaking. (patreon should always get more stuff. they're keeping you up and running.
But mayhaps every 3rd week or something of the month you just hit the community with a small update even if it feels slow. I know it might seems stupid, but often times it builds better bridges. A lot of devs on here could learn that as I see more and more lean to patreon only and leave itch in the dark.
Keep up the good cooking, good fella ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ
